When you consider Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking are not the very first items that spring into mind, well at least it wasn’t for me. More probable pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest along with the mysterious Himalaya pop in your head. So you can imagine my surprise after i got to Nepal and wound up rafting and kayaking over Ten times!
When you in Thamel or Pokhara (the key touristy area’s in Nepal) you will find travel agents all around us, and I immediately decided rafting was something I needed to do within my period in Nepal. The very first decision to make is which river to take. Nepal offers most of the worlds best rivers, including a gently flowing river with a of the fiercest whitewater in the world. So determined by your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s definitely something for anyone! The perfect times to visit are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run all year long water will likely be at its highest, fastest, and most exhilarating through these months.
Deciding on a company to select can prove a little tricky though! There are plenty of travel specialists lining the streets, however, choosing one between your other is actually impossible…Each will offer virtually precisely the same prices, nearly the exact same trips and promise the optimum time you will ever have! However there are many of companies around, it’s actually a shame to state that are immediately after your hard earned money. You should locate a registered company that have safety procedures in place. I finished up picking GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the corporation owner, once or twice around Thamel I trusted that they would deliver what he promised, after a little bit of research I ran across that he is typically the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship to the second time, I felt I had created made the correct decision and would be in safe hands.
The journey to the river was amazing itself. Coming from the valley you happen to be greeted by way of a classical life style. Women working within the rice paddies inside their saris, looking more glamorous than I can ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their own heads walking over the highway to high school; Gorgeous mountains in private; Random Buffalo dotted all around the scene to call only a few things we were treated to on our journey towards the river. After Two hours of staring hypnotised the window we arrived at a small village prepared for your rafting needs. There is a tiny shed (just like usually the one you can imagine Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) for you to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you have to before starting per day about the river!
When arriving at Rafting in Nepal , I realised I needed made the very best decision in choosing GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts arranged and waiting to match various companies and ours was on your own with any safety kayakers. You can see where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
Which was it, Maila as well as the team got people suited and booted in everyday life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) after a very informative safety talk we were off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash with your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
