If you consider Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking are not the initial issues that spring into mind, at least it had not been for me personally. More inclined images of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest as well as the mysterious Himalaya pop into the head. To help you imagine my surprise while i got to Nepal and ended up rafting and kayaking over 10 x!
When you arrive in Thamel or Pokhara (the key touristy area’s in Nepal) there are travel companies all around us, and I immediately decided rafting was something I had to do within my time in Nepal. The very first decision to create is which river to go on. Nepal offers most of the worlds best rivers, ranging from a gently flowing river to some with the fiercest whitewater on the planet. So according to your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most certainly something for any person! The very best times to travel are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run all year long water will probably be at its highest, fastest, and quite a few exhilarating of these months.
Picking a company to go with can establish a little tricky though! There are plenty of travel agencies lining the streets, however, choosing one involving the other is almost impossible…Each of them offer virtually exactly the same prices, nearly the identical trips and promise the optimum time of your life! However there are plenty of companies out there, it’s really a shame to state which are immediately after your cash. You will need to locate a registered company which have safety levels in place. I ended up choosing GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the organization owner, a few times around Thamel I trusted that he would deliver what he promised, and after a little bit of research I ran across that he’s currently the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship for that second time, I felt I had created made the proper decision and would be in safe hands.
Your journey to the river was amazing alone. Coming out of the valley you’re greeted with a classical life style. Women working hard within the rice paddies within their saris, looking more glamorous than I possibly could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on his or her heads walking down the highway to college; Gorgeous mountains in private; Random Buffalo dotted all over the scene to just some things we were treated to on our journey for the river. After Two hours of staring hypnotised out your window we reached a small village equipped for the rafting needs. There were a small shed (rather like normally the one imaginable Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) to finding changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you want before starting every day around the river!
When going to the beginning point, I realised I had created made the best decision in going with GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts arranged and waiting to select various companies and ours was on your own with any safety kayakers. kayak in pokhara can view where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
And this maybe it was, Maila along with the team got all of us suited and booted in life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) after an incredibly informative safety talk we had arrived off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash with your face and down your T-Shirt definitely wakes you up!
