It’s been 5 years since Sami went to France to handle his studies in engineering. He is courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 x annually, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 yrs . old and will not work. When Sami announced to her he could be likely to Paris to examine, she was proud but in addition anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less through the night, thinking about how her son would survive life in France. In the cold to women to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother how to use Skype and promised to occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be enough.
Nada spent a lot of her days waiting for that Skype notification to determine and speak to her son. Each time Sami returned home, he pointed out that her face increasingly showed indications of anxiety, which worried him a whole lot. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France offers him having a better life.
August 2017. Sami recently landed in Lebanon and goes home to see his parents. He discusses
his mother’s face and sees different things: she actually is smiling and appears relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with technological advancements, WhatsApp was unveiled in the entire world. This is revolutionary in several ways. Surprisingly, it changed Nada’s life. She actually is a quick learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami very easily share many details of his life along with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she can hear his voice at any time throughout the day. She can also video-call him even if he could be all the time, inside a different country. Sami sometimes shares pictures of his lunch, weather, articles of clothing he desired to buy, as well as images of his new girlfriend. Whenever she likes to anxious, she sends Sami a note, and a lot of the time, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technology has been criticized a lot lately as a reason families are becoming distant, but in some cases, specifically for people living abroad, it’s changed their lives.
