In the Course in Miracles (ACIM), kindness is owned by humility and learning and unkindness has been arrogance and specialness. There are two books by Kenneth Wapnick on, “The Healing Power of Kindness.” Volume 1 is on, “Releasing Judgment” and Volume 2 on, “Forgiving Our Limitations.” I think, these ought to be required reading and recurring study if you’re a life threatening Course student. The next passage says it all:
Once you reserve the brilliant metaphysics of A Course in Miracles along with its sophisticated psychological insights, the Course could be pared as a result of one easy rule: Be kind. If you are not kind, then not merely are you currently not practicing this course, fat loss you can even start to be aware of it. Despite this admonition, we refer to being unkind:
This inability to truly practice A training course in Miracles’ kind principles of forgiveness which they study, and even just teach, has perhaps been one of the most serious failing among its students. This book’s sequel, “Few Decide to Listen,” discusses how students often conceal their thought system of specialness under the guise of spiritual counseling or friendship. Having less simple kindness is, unfortunately, unmistakable to all or any except the Course student making the spiritual pronouncements (The content Of A Course in Miracles: All Are Called, p. 306).
The non-dualistic concept of kindness is not understood here within the example of dualism provided that specialness is continuously chosen because the ego arises from an unkind thought against God and Heaven. Our unwillingness to recognize this concerning the ego, along with what everything that thought system is capable of doing, is something that hinders our progress using the Course. We have to be prepared to check out the ego with all the Holy Spirit – the Teacher – and take that darkness to Him for forgiveness. Nothing can be hidden and that’s straight from the Course.
Kindness To Others Is Kindness To Self
In the books on kindness, Mr. Wapnick also references the foundation of the person’s unkind behavior is the same fear (and repressed guilt) which is working in your own mind and that is what unites us. We have precisely the same right-mind and the same capability to choose between them. Choosing to be kind will not make us different or better; rather it implies were happy to practice the “kind principles” in the Course to ensure we can learn to understand everything it really is teaching. It’s just a question of priority.
He goes on to say that in mastering how to be kind towards others, we have been practicing being kind toward ourselves because, “you along with your brother are certainly. They are a part of you. You are not different.” It goes straight to the guts with the ego’s thought system wherein the very idea of difference is how the ego began – God and his awesome Son were separate and various – and undoes it. Even slightest hint of specialness could be the ego. What he’s saying becomes clear if you actually study and practice the kind forgiveness with the Course!
A critical student in the Course would like to understand what therefore. These students choose to be considered a happy learner together with the only true teacher – the Holy Spirit – rather than a spiritually special teacher of the ego in all forms. These are pleased to study Him how you can be free from the burdens connected with denying reality:
Forgiveness’ kindness is obscure initially, because salvation is not understood, nor truly sought for (S-2.I.1). And here you will set down the duty of denying truth. This is actually the burden that is certainly terrible, instead of the reality (T-21-VI.7).
Self versus “self” -or- Identity versus “identity”
Within the Course, you will find there’s contrast between the “Self” that is our true Identity as Christ along with the “self” identity together with the ego. Our behaviors are the tyoe of which mind we now have chosen (God or ego). The ego is often a vengeful and tyrannical thought system of unkindnesses whereas freedom from that is tied right to kindness:
Without anxiety the mind is wholly kind (T-6.III.3).
Freedom can not be learned by tyranny of any kind (T-8.IV.7).
It is also unkind to switch the program and spiritual specialness does that through competition with God thereby everyone. One small change effectually changes the whole thing in the Course, a total thought system. If you feel you realize that, you never. Once you learn one does, you will automatically be kind available for you see the inherent value kindness plays in learning and comprehending the Course. As Wapnick states, “It’s a matter of priority.”
When Kindness Calls
To conclude, let’s turn back now to Mr. Wapnick and his book, “The Message Of your Course In Miracles: Few Opt to Listen,” and to Chapters 4 and 6 on spiritual specialness. I’ll highlight some important passages beginning from an incredibly telling quote. First, however, allow me to also include that two-book set (including, “Few Decide to Listen”) should also be required ongoing study for serious Course students:
“Love is frightening because it’s all-encompassing and within it there is absolutely no room for specialness or individual uniqueness.”
He goes on to point out that if we’re lured to call care about our review is a few deficiency, or lack, we are wanting to make such limitation real and into a thing that divides the Sonship. The rock of salvation is always that no-one can lose so another gains, i.e., you’ll find nothing to look at from another, not even their success. However, do not understand why until following the necessary time invested in learning the words are correct in addition to their true meaning. What your body appear to be doing tells us which internal teacher we now have chosen – the ego or perhaps the Holy Spirit. The ego is limitations, judgment, specialness and separation – the complete opposite of the Sonship as One.
When we are not kind, we are not Course students or teachers of God (the Course as our path). When kindness calls, it must be chosen as kindness brings about miracle-mindedness. Unkindness is with the ego.
