Botanical garden of Gambarogno
This magnificent botanic garden is found around the Gambarogno-side of Lake Maggiore, on the plain in the hills between Piazzogna and Vairano.
With this place, Otto Eisenhut, the patient and talented cultivator of plants and trees, cultivated 1000s of beautiful and vibrant flowering plants like 950 varieties of camelias, 450 different magnolias, azaleas, peonies and Rhododendron over a surface of over 20’000 m2.
In addition, here grows also ivy, pines, juniper and other rare European and exotic coniferous trees.
Forever of the season 2000 the park is led by the donation ” parco botanico del gambarogno “, which would be to guarantee the continuity of this attractive garden featuring its valuable botanic collection.
Visitors need an hour for the trip to this park, connoisseurs probably somewhat longer.
Cardada Cimetta
Have you believed that above Locarno there exists a view point from which you can observe at the same time the best point (Lago Maggiore) as well as the highest point (Dufour Peak in Monte Rosa) in Switzerland?
For the summit in the mountain, 1671 meters above sea level, a viewing platform was built which overlooks the complete region of Lake Maggiore. On the east the view stretches in the Magadino Plain to Bellinzona. Towards the west the scene extends over probably the most famous peaks of the Swiss Alps including the Dufour. South, beyond the mountains that surround Lake Maggiore, you can see within the distance the Ligurian Apennines, located near Genoa.
Further down, several meters outside the arrival station of the cable car a footbridge was built which winds its way throughout the tops of the trees of the woods below. Out of this unusual scenic promontory it is possible to admire the forest, the Centovalli and areas of the Maggia Valley.
