It’s been five-years since Sami went along to France to undertake his studies in engineering. He is courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 times per year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 years of age and does not work. When Sami announced to her which he would be likely to Paris to review, she was proud but in addition anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less at night, considering how her son would survive life in France. From the cold to girls to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother how to use Skype and promised to call occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be adequate.
Nada spent plenty of her days waiting for that Skype notification to see and speak with her son. Each time Sami returned home, he realized that her face increasingly showed signs and symptoms of anxiety, which worried him a lot. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France would provide him having a better life.
August 2017. Sami has just landed in Lebanon and goes home to see his parents. He discusses
his mother’s face and sees different things: she’s smiling and appears relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was introduced to the planet. This was revolutionary in many ways. Believe it or not, it changed Nada’s life. She’s a simple learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami is now share many details of his life with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she will hear his voice any time in the daytime. She can also video-call him even when he could be all the time, in a different country. Sami sometimes shares pictures of his lunch, the elements, a write-up of clothing he wished to buy, and even images of his new girlfriend. Whenever she’s anxious, she sends Sami a message, and many of that time period, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technology has been criticized a whole lot lately being a reason why individuals are becoming distant, but in certain cases, especially for people living abroad, it’s got changed their lives.
