How weddings have changed in the decades! Coming from a handful to 400-500 invited guests; one-two to six-eight wedding party members; an easy wedding car to expensive and big wedding cars; three course meals to course meals; one to three live bands; simple attire to colorful and flamboyant dresses, suits and attire and off-the-cuff to well-prepared wedding speeches.
While we’re talking about the latter, wedding speeches continue to be a fundamental part of a married relationship and guests do anticipate hearing them, discussing them before, during and indeed after they’ve been delivered.
We are all aware of wedding speeches delivered prior to meal, in the meal and after your food, however it’s of a strong opinion the groom speech needs to be delivered following your meal. I understand that for a lot of marriage ceremony speakers i.e. Father from the Bride Speech, Father in the Groom Speech, Bride Speech, Groom Speech and Bestman Speech (the 5 main speakers), they would prefer to contain the wedding speeches prior to meal, for them to enjoy their meal (a lot of them are spending money for it!). However, all is here the invited guests and just how many (as well as the wedding venue staff) would rather the marriage speeches to get delivered as soon as the meal for most reasons, a few of which include:
The invited guests are already fed and watered and aren’t hearing wedding speeches on an empty stomach (at least of food, which could be so prior to meal, though weddings today do provide light snacks upon arrival in the wedding venue)
Food can be cooked and served at the agreed time (introduce the wedding speeches prior to the meal as well as their is actually a delay of Fifteen minutes to 1.5 hours, driving your home staff crazy continuing to keep food freshly cooked, presentable and edible)
The wedding ceremony speeches become the transition in the meal to the dancing (with nothing happening following the meal, everyone is expecting ‘a few words’ being shared in regards to the Bride & Groom and they know they’re able to stand up, move, take a rest, go for a walk, see a bar…)
It’s not easy for moms and dads from the Bride & Groom to speak in public areas, as the majority of them wouldn’t be used from it. So, they may, whenever they so wished, speak prior to / their meal.
There should still be some type of formal wedding speech(es) following your meal…
